Six River Marine in North Yarmouth completed the 29 footer and launched her late last summer. She is called BLACK HORSE II. She was not totally fi nished at the time. She is back in the shop and they are putting on rubrails, cockpit doors, boot stripe and some interior work. This boat is powered with twin 225 hp outboard engines and reached a speed of 50 miles an hour. Next in the shop will be a True North, which is coming in for some upgrades and regular maintenance. This should take about a month to complete. A Sabre 32 will also be in for upgrades and maintenance.
This boat came from New Mexico to be worked on at Padebco Custom Boats in Round Pond.
Kittery Point Yacht Yard in Eliot/ Kittery said that they are full this winter for storage customers. They also have a number of projects lined up and several more pend- ing. They did say that there were way too many boats still in the water that needed to be hauled. This is probably due to the fi ne weather we have had this fall and people just hoping for another day out on the water. Hauling these boats around the yard will be a little bit easier now that the new lift is in place. This lift, a 55 ton Travelift, came from Dodson’s Boatyard in Stonington, Connecticut. When she arrived at the yard they completely went through her. It was originally thought that she would not fi t in to their new building, but when measured she made it by an inch and a half on each side. One of the big projects this winter will
be on a Hinckley 51 Sou’wester. She is in for full cosmetics and other work. Another big project is on the 54 Ocean, which is in for a refi t. This will include re- doing the windows, replacing the teak deck and a paint job.
They took their PYY 22 to the Newport Boat Show in September and had a lot of interest. They have done a number of sea trials and feel that they will sell at least one or two of them.
There is a number of paint and mechan- ical jobs, but most of the work is annual maintenance.
They have just received two contracts with the U.S. Navy to maintain a special fl eet of their boats. They also have two US Coast Guard jobs to do.
The big job this winter will be on the 46-foot wooden boat KATIE MACK built by McGugan Brothers in British Columbia in 1932. This is a major restoration project and they will begin work midwinter.
Casey Yacht Enterprises in Freeport has a unique powerboat in the shop for res- toration. She is a 1964 Glaspar G3 powered with a 1964 85 hp Mercury outboard. There is some repairing that needs to be done, but most of the work will be fairing and repaint- ing. This project will take a number of weeks to complete.
Also coming in is a 26 foot fi berglass
Lyman. She is going to get Awlgripped. Then are the storage customers and that means lots of general maintenance that needs to be done before next season arrives. Most of this work includes buffi ng and wax- ing and bottom jobs.
Bamforth Marine in Brunswick has

been working on a 24 foot 1961 Lyman since last winter. She was purchased from a customer in midcoast Maine who wanted to down size. Most of the work has been sanding fairing and varnishing. There has been some major projects, which included deck frames and new decks, new windshield framing and transom, but this was done before it arrived at Bamforth. While in this shop she had her gas tank redone and repaint- ed; the engine beds were replaced with white oak and the new 357 310 hp Mercruiser en- gine with a new transmission will be going in shortly. The only other major project left is wiring.
Finestkind Boatyard in Harpswell is in the midst of hauling their storage custom- ers and getting ready for the winter. They already have some projects lined up. A 42 foot Duffy hull, which had never
been fi nished by a former owner, has been brought into the shop and will be fi nished out as a commercial fi shing boat for a fi sherman from Ogunquit. She will have a basic interior and as of yet her owner has not decided on what engine she will be powered with. They will begin this project the end of October. A Marine Trader is coming in for in-
terior, deck and engine room upgrades. It is uncertain but they also think the engine might be rebuilt. A 40 foot sailboat, which was built in
the Western Pacifi c, is coming in and having a rotten section of her deck replaced. This section is on the starboard side.
Padebco Custom Boats in Round Pond has several new boats to build this winter and two restoration projects underway. This winter they are going to build three 23 footers. One will go to Massachusetts and the other two will stay here in Maine. All will be done this spring.
They also have a contract on a Padebco 25, which will begin this winter. The big repair job is on a 1930s power- boat which came to them from New Mexico. She is having her interior redone and a new engine installed. A Padebco 27 was just sold and her new owners want her completely refurbished to look like new. She is currently in their stor- age shed shop being worked on.
Wesmac in Surry has a number of new boats under construction and several more
