WATERLOO, IA — John Deere Power Sys- tems (JDPS) has announce that it will meet U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Marine Tier 3 emissions regulations with a complete lineup of diesel engines from 74 to 559 kW (99 to 750 hp). New PowerTechTM

9.0L and 13.5L Tier 3 pro-

pulsion and generator-drive engines join the previously announced 4.5L and 6.8L Tier 3 models, offering customers a full range of powerful and reliable choices for commer- cial and recreational applications. John Deere Tier 3 marine engines meet current European Union emissions require- ments for propulsion engines used on recre- ational crafts and inland waterway vessels. They also meet current limits established by International Maritime Organization (IMO) MARPOL Annex VI. The PowerTech 6090AFM85,

PowerTech 6090SFM85, PowerTech 6135AFM85 and PowerTech 6135SFM85 propulsion and generator-drive engines are the latest additions to the John Deere Tier 3 lineup. Tier 3 regulations impacting these 9.0L and 13.5L engines take effect in 2014. “John Deere 9.0L and 13.5L Tier 3 marine engines offer customers hassle-free

replacement options,” said Carl Micu, manager of North American engine sales for JDPS. “Our larger Tier 2 marine engines were developed with Tier 3 emissions regu- lations in mind, allowing us to transition to Tier 3 without signifi cant hardware changes. These engines will provide customers with a similar package and performance while meeting the more stringent regulations.” “In addition to emissions compliance,

our complete Tier 3 marine engine lineup offers the power, reliable performance, long life, fuel effi ciency, quiet operation, ease of maintenance and simplifi ed integration that customers have come to expect from John Deere.”

New 9.0L engines

John Deere has added two new 9.0L models to its lineup of Tier 3 marine en- gines: the PowerTech 6090AFM85 and PowerTech 6090SFM85 propulsion and generator-drive engines. The PowerTech 6090AFM85 is an air- to-coolant aftercooled version of the John Deere 9.0L engine and offers outstanding power density and long-term reliability. The engine is available in four different propul- sion ratings from 213 to 317 kW (285 to 425 hp); gen-set ratings include 222 kW (297 hp) at 1800 rpm for 60 Hz and 195 kW (261 hp) at 1500 rpm for 50 Hz. The PowerTech 6090SFM85 is a turbo-

charged and air-to-seawater aftercooled en- gine. The model is available in fi ve different propulsion ratings from 242 to 410 kW (325 to 550 hp); gen-drive ratings include 222 kW (298 hp) at 1500 rpm for 50 Hz and 278 kW (373 hp) at 1800 rpm for 60 Hz. “The John Deere PowerTech 6090SFM85 engine is an excellent choice for high-speed craft such as sportfi shing boats and planing hull yachts,” Micu said.

Both 9.0L models feature a high-pres- sure common-rail fuel system, four valves per cylinder and turbocharging. The PowerTech 6090AFM85 is available with keel-cooled or integrated heat exchanger options. The PowerTech 6090SFM85 has an integrated heat exchanger confi guration. New 13.5L engines John Deere 13.5L Tier 3 propulsion

and generator-drive engines include the PowerTech 6135AFM85 and PowerTech 6135SFM85.

The PowerTech 6135AFM85 is the

largest John Deere air-to-coolant after- cooled engine. The engine is available in four different propulsion ratings from 272 to 429 kW (365 to 575 hp); gen-set ratings include 334 kW (448 hp) at 1800 rpm for 60 Hz and 278 kW (373 hp) at 1500 rpm for 50 Hz.

“This PowerTech 6135AFM85 engine is ideal for high-horsepower applications such as patrol craft, launches, workboats, fi shing boats, trawler yachts and sportfi shing boats,” Micu said. The PowerTech 6135SFM85 is the most powerful engine produced by John Deere. The turbocharged and air-to-seawa- ter aftercooled engine features six cylinders and electronic controls, providing high torque at low speeds. The 6135SFM85 mod- el is available in fi ve different propulsion ratings from 317 to 559 kW (425 to 750 hp); gen-drive ratings include 416 kW (558 hp) at 1800 rpm for 60 Hz and 334 kW (448 hp) at 1500 rpm for 50 Hz. Both 13.5L models feature electron- ic unit injectors, four valves per cylin- der and turbocharging. The PowerTech 6135AFM85 engine is available with keel- cooled or integrated heat exchanger options. The 6135SFM85 has an integrated heat exchanger confi guration. 4.5L and 6.8L engines

EPA Marine Tier 3 regulations impact- ing John Deere 4.5L and 6.8L engines went into effect Jan. 1, 2013.

John Deere previously introduced the PowerTech 4045AFM85 engine, its most powerful 4.5L marine engine, as part of a new lineup of PowerTech 4.5L and 6.8L pro- pulsion and generator-drive Tier 3 engines.

With ratings of up to 168 kW (225 hp), the PowerTech 4045AFM85 engine serves as a more powerful and compact replacement of the PowerTech 6.8L 6068TFM75 pro- pulsion and PowerTech 6.8L 6068TFM76 generator-drive engines. “The PowerTech 4045AFM85 deliv- ers more power in a smaller displacement engine, offering constant power at 400 rpm below rated speed,” Micu said. “This makes the engine an excellent choice for recreational uses. As a gen-set engine, the PowerTech 4045AFM85 model provides quiet, smooth operation for recreational vessels.”

In addition to the PowerTech 4045AFM85 engine, John Deere has also added the PowerTech 4045TFM85 gener- ator-drive engine, which offers quiet and smooth operation for gen-set applications. The 4045TFM85 engine offers a prime power rating of 74 kW (99 hp) at 60 Hz (1800 rpm), and features a high-pressure common-rail fuel system, two valves per cylinder, and the choice of keel-cooled or integrated heat exchanger options. John Deere also added two new 6.8L models to the lineup of marine engines: the PowerTech 6068AFM85 and PowerTech 6068SFM85 propulsion and generator drive engines. Both engines cover the power range previously covered by the popular PowerTech 6081AFM75 propulsion and generator-drive engine. The PowerTech 6068AFM85 and 6068SFM85 engines feature high-pressure common-rail fuel sys- tems, four valves per cylinder and low-tem- perature aftercoolers.

The 6068AFM85 model is available with keel-cooled or integrated heat ex- changer options. The 6068SFM85 engine is offered with an integrated heat exchanger confi guration. “We increased the power density of our

6.8L Tier 3 engines to help maximize living or cargo space for our customers,” Micu said.

John Deere will continue to offer Tier 2

and non-certifi ed marine engine models for regions and applications not impacted by the new regulations.
