Benteler enters the North American seamless tube market

A

s part of their growth strategy, Benteler Stahl/Rohr (BSR) located in Paderborn/

Germany concluded a contract with Danieli & C., Buttrio/ Italy for a new turnkey 4 ½” seamless tube mill in the USA. The mill will be built in Shreveport, Louisiana, and will be one of the largest production plants in the history of this region.

The mill is designed for an annual capacity of 320,000 t/a and will produce high-quality seamless tubes with excellent tolerances

Thereby, BSR has opted for rolling blocks with a modular design which are equipped with both non-adjustable and adjustable roll

Statistics recently published by the Manufacturing Technologies Association (MTA) show that  key suppliers of tools and equipment to engineering based manufacturing, is at a two year high.

 the future is at the highest since mid-2011 and a large majority of companies are predicting improvements in their businesses over the next twelve months. Graham Dewhurst, MTA Director General, said: “It’s  is up and that our members are looking forward to the future. It’s reassuring to see the indicators continue to point in the right direction – it’s also reassuring to see that growth is on a sustainable pattern not a rollercoaster. “2013 has been a strong year for the industry with order and sales at good levels throughout. What is also good

news is that we can now see a clear trend in employment with companies’ workforces growing at an annualised 6%. “If the Manufacturing

Technologies Sector is doing well then it means that UK manufacturing is investing in its future. But we need to be sure that continues into the medium and long term. The UK is a great place to manufacture, but it could be better still. We now have a competitive tax regime in  needs to capitalise on that by making the other side of the investment coin – plant and equipment - globally competitive too. That can be done through bringing Capital Allowances up to international ‘best in class’ standards”.

stands. The stands are operated with individually driven rolls, and, as they are interchangeable, they can be used in the EXB as well as in the SRB on every stand position. The particularities of this design, (i.e. the pass remote control for the adjustable stands, quick-changing systems for stands and rolls) considerably minimize the number of changing stands and therby the investment and operating costs. The automation system enables the visualization of the measured data of the rolling mill, and at the same time, allows the operator to

control the operation, minimizing heavy ends and wall thickness variation. This translates into a consistently high production of seamless tubes of top quality and at the same time reducing operational mistakes to a minimum. Production of the new seamless tube mill is scheduled for the second half of 2015.

Customer support over the festive season

CSG Pipelines, part of the Casting Services Group, one of the UK’s leading suppliers of quality civil engineering products, is increasing support for customers over the Christmas period and throughout the winter, following forecasts of severe weather. As temperatures plummet, winter is one of CSG’s busiest times of year and this year, the  support through a 24 hour emergency helpline for customers, to help them deal with burst pipes and cracked valves as a result of freezing conditions. CSG Pipelines Sales Manager, Sonia Pickering commented. “In many ways this is a seasonal business, we meet customer demands in the summer months when the majority of maintenance work is carried out on pipelines. During winter the team is prepared to deal with the repairs on pipes and valves notoriously brought about by freezing weather.
