A
very warm welcome to the autumn edition of City Security magazine and in particular to our increasing number of new readers. This is the time of the year we associate with harvest and we have a great crop of articles for you in this edition.
Following a recent UK Trade and Investment report showing that UK security companies receive considerable international recognition, our theme this issue is international security. Amanda Beesley from the BSIA develops the theme for those security businesses considering exporting their products and services.
We feature articles from across the continents with Britt Titus from Securing Asia shining a light on the ever-expanding Asian and African security markets. Chris Tomlinson from Arup investigates whether there is a shared view on the contemporary terrorist threat in the European Union. Mark Daley outlines the types of international abduction and the people behind them. There is news on the partnership between police and the travel industry on preventing Hajj fraud. And with UK Security companies recognised for their skills in providing security for world sporting events, we look at the security at the iconic international venue, Wembley Stadium. Jason Brown explores how professionalism is being built in the security profession in Australasia. And for those who travel on business, we have an article from Andy Williams from Nomura on mitigating any issues that may arise.
In addition, we feature an interview with Geoff Zeidler, Chairman of the British Security Industry Association, and get the inside story on his recent appearance on the TV show Undercover Boss. We are delighted to welcome Gloria Laycock, Professor of Crime Science at the Jill Dando Institute, University College London, to our pages with an article discussing the implications of reductions in crime on the security industry.
As well as producing this issue, we have also moved to new offices opposite Cockfosters tube station (which is the first station on the Piccadilly Line). This now means we are literally at the end of the line, and we look forward to hearing from you, particularly if you have an article you may wish to submit or to take out advertising in our 2014 issues.
Thank you to everyone who commented on how much they enjoyed the last issue, we do appreciate the feedback.
