Radio link to

deter thieves A NEW radio link connecting the Bearsted Co-op with the re- tailer’s two branches in Shep- way is to be introduced to target shoplifting. Six cases of shoplifting oc- curred at the Co-op store in Madginford between April and September, which came as a sur- prise to police who anticipated only two incidents. Local PC Nick Hatcher has worked with the three stores to design a scheme where each store can alert each other to po- tential troublemakers. PCSO Maxine Martin said: “The same crooks can go from one Co-op to another because they think it is an easy touch.” The Shepway stores are in

Willington Street and Northum- berland Avenue.

Branches hazard MAUREEN Murton has applied for conservation area consent to remove a group of about 14 Law- son cypress trees in Loose. Her application for Bridge Manor, Salts Lane, says the trees have outgrown their initial use as screening, adding: “Some of the weighty branches are leaning in towards our garden and it is only a matter of time before they break.”

Maidstone Council will deter- mine the planning application.
