A few months ago my husband and Senior Editor Jock and I found out about a local public art gallery holding another art auction. We have had issues with art auctions for a lot of reasons and to make a long story short, Jock and the Director of the gallery ended up on local radio debating the issue of art auctions and how they have the potential to harm artists.
About a week later we both logged on to different LinkedIn groups we had joined and posted a bold message: STOP We purposely began the discussion thread with a very strong statement because we really wanted feedback. hundreds of messages from polite discussion to verbal
mud-slinging and everything in between.
As a result we felt we should compile some of the information and feedback into a more constructive document that would talk about the pitfalls of art auctions, but also give constructive solutions. We teamed up with another artist and gallery owner to produce such a document, along with arts community.
