Great Day Out THE CBeebies Mr Bloom & Friends’ Big Day Out event in Mote Park recently was a big hit, with around 18,000 visitors attending over the three days of the event. Maidstone council’s cabinet member for community and leisure services, Cllr John Wil- son, said: “The CBeebies Big Day Out was a fantastic event for all the family, and we’re de- lighted that the BBC saw what a perfect venue Mote Park would be.

“Many congratulations to the officers at Maidstone Council, and the Mote Park volunteers, who worked exceptionally hard to make sure everyone had the best experience possi- ble.”

New face at Chequers AN historic pub at the heart of the Loose com- munity has a new landlord. Shaw Cavill, who has trained under some of

the country’s top chefs, took over the Chequers earlier in the summer from former hosts Sue and John Grigg. Although the couple have retired from the licensed trade, they will continue to be regu- lars on the other side of the bar – when Sue is not wearing her LibDem councillor’s hat, or that of a magistrate in Medway! Shaw, a former pupil of Sutton Valence School and Teesside University worked pre- viously at Chilis, Maison Blanc and for Para- mount Restaurants.
