It was a friend from London’s celebrity
haunt, The Ivy who was setting up his own village pub and restaurant in Wiltshire that tempted Mark down the M4 to work as head chef and manager. It was then just a short hop to Cowley
Manor in Gloucestershire where he had a successful spell as head chef before he began his own solo venture in Nailsworth. For dessert we could have chosen
Lavender Crème Brulee with Herefordshire Strawberries and Prosecco Gel, or Glazed Bitter Chocolate Ganache with Sorrel Ice-Cream and Crystalised Chocolate or Gloucestershire Cheeses with Water Biscuits and Rhubarb Chutney with Smith’s Woodhouse LBV Port. We opted instead for the Sharing Pud
for 2 consisting of Chocolate Fondant, Ginger Ice-Cream, Panna Cotta and Elderflower and Gooseberry Parfait with Macaroon.
Inspiring life in the Cotswolds It was perfection on a plate with the
fondant particularly heavenly and melt-in- the-mouth gooey. The thing that stands out at mark@
street is the innovation and the unfailing consistency in quality and execution. It is rare to find such perfection course
after course without some tiny criticism but this meal was undisputedly faultless. Whether it is a casual lunchtime
experience - two courses for £10 - or a relaxed fine-dining evening you are after, do not, whatever you do, overlook this truly fabulous restaurant.
