School ‘set to make progress’

LOOSE Infant School has been told by Ofsted that it requires improvement. The Loose Road school scored

grade 3 (inadequate) in every category when it was inspected in June. Pupils’ achievement was not

good enough and some teachers did not make expectations clear nor did they set work that matched the needs of individ- ual pupils, the report found. Behaviour management and

themarking of pupils’ work was not consistent, subject leaders, other than those responsible for English and maths, were not monitoring lessons sufficiently and information collected in the Early Years Foundation Stage

about children’s progress was not used efficiently. On the positive side, atten-

dance was above average, spe- cialist teaching programmes were particularly effective, sen- ior leaders, governors and the local authority had started to make improvements and pupils were well-behaved. Jay Pye, executive head teacher of Loose Schools' Feder- ation said: “While the recentOf- sted report will understandably cause parents some concern, the inspection team recognised that significant improvements have taken place this year. “A new pupil tracking system

has been successfully introduced to address the inconsistency in

standards and the historic lack of accurate information about pupil progress data. “Leadership and management

issues and staff turnover have been addressed. The schoolwas fully staffed for September and very well placed to continue to make good progress. “Governors are keen to strongly reassure parents and carers that the school is already well on the way towards achieving a good standard of performance across all areas, in- cluded in theOfsted inspection. “Parents will be kept fully in- formed of the school’s progress through a newsletter sent out each term (six times per year) from governors.”
