Spain’s Expobioenergia exceeds target
T
he start-out target set for the 8th annual Expobioenergia, which takes place in Valladolid, Spain, from 22-24 October, was to equal the 16,000 m2 of exhibition space booked in 2012. However, the number of metres taken this year has grown to reach 19,500 m2, an increase of 22%. Since March, 390 enterprises and brands from around the world have confi rmed that they will be taking part. When activity sectors are considered, there is a wide range of representation from the whole biomass value chain, including: technologies for using agricultural and forest biomass; equipment for grinding and chipping agricultural and timber biomass; equipment for manufacturing pellets and briquettes; pellet and chip production and distribution, storage, selection and drying; stoves and fi replaces; boilers for domestic use and industrial equipment; district heating

WEC highlights energy effi ciency
In a statement issued in London on 11 September, the World Energy Council (WEC) highlighted the reality that more still needs to be done to unlock the potential of energy effi ciency to deliver energy and carbon savings. This message comes from a report to be published next month by the WEC and the French environment agency (ADEME). Its fi ndings are expected to inform discussions at the 22nd World Energy Congress to be held in Daegu, Korea, from 13-17 October, 2013. The organising committee has announced some of the
signifi cant programme topics that will be discussed by leading fi gures in the energy sector at the Congress. Under the theme of ‘Securing Tomorrow’s Energy Today’, topics will include the renewables sector and cover: • Biofuels: What are the critical critical success factors for sustainable projects? • Finance: Is development
fi nance delivering inclusive green growth?
“The Congress will provide a fascinating overview of the opportunities and challenges of our energy world in transition,” said Dr Christoph Frei, Secretary-
General of the World Energy Council. “The issues to be highlighted will be addressed from a number of viewpoints, encompassing the perspectives of individual energy sectors and geographical regions, as well as providing a strategic overview of global energy trends.” More than 200 prominent speakers, including energy ministers, industry CEOs and top experts and researchers, will answer the most pressing questions facing the global energy industry today. various ‘Models for sustainable production, distribution and effi cient use of biomass’ related to the installation of a modern logistics centre for biomass. The speakers will also be studying in details the ‘Quality Certifi cations for solid biofuels’ that are currently available to guarantee consumer confi dence.
