IAS Affiliates
The Sir Derman Christopherson/Sir James Knott Foundation Fellowships enable gifted Durham University researchers to take a term’s leave from teaching in order to advance new or existing research of the highest quality. Recipients are automatically granted IAS Affiliate status, and they are welcomed to the IAS to engage with its Fellows and programme of activities.
Dr Ted Kaizer, Department of Classics and Ancient History
Ted Kaizer is Senior Lecturer in Roman Culture and History. His main research interest is the social and religious history of the Near East in the Late Hellenistic and Roman period. During his Christopherson/Knott Fellowship he will be working on his book project on The Religious Life of Dura-Europos, a small-town on the Euphrates River known amongst scholars as the ‘Pompeii of the Syrian desert.’
Dr Colin Lever, Department of Psychology
Colin Lever’s research focuses on neurophysiology underlying the functions of the hippocampal formation (e.g. spatial memory, anxiety). During his Christopherson/ Knott Fellowship he will be setting up an optogenetics lab, combining electrophysiological multi-site recording of multiple single neurons, and pharmacology, with laser stimulation of particular sets of neurons.
Professor Eleanor Spaventa, School of Law
Eleanor Spaventa is Professor of European Law. Her research interests lie in European Union law and in particular in the fields of European constitutional law, free movement, fundamental rights and cooperation in criminal matters in the EU. During her Christopherson/Knott fellowship she will be working on a project on fundamental rights in the European Union.
