There’s so much to see and do in Chester & Cheshire. Here are a few ideas to help you get the most out of your group visit.


Chester City Your clients can enjoy taking a look inside the magnificent Chester Cathedral; with soaring Norman arches, spectacular medieval woodcarvings and stunning stained glass - it’s an awe-inspiring place of worship with something for everyone making it the perfect place for groups.


With so much to see in Chester why not take a walking tour of the city; let one of Chester’s guides showcase the best of the city in 1.5 hours. Walking tours depart opposite the Cathedral from the Town Hall Visitor Information Centre and can be booked at a time to suit you. Walking tour not your thing? Hop on the Chester Heritage Bus and enjoy a 40-minute fully guided city tour from outside the Town Hall on board a replica Edwardian omnibus.


If you prefer to take a leisurely stroll through the city at your own pace make sure you don’t miss out on seeing the ornate Eastgate Clock and Chester’s unique shopping Rows. Don’t miss the Roman Amphitheatre (the largest in Britain) or the River Dee. Make time too for the City Walls , the most complete in Britain.

If you are visiting between May – August don’t miss the Town Criermaking a midday proclamation Tuesday to Saturday at 12 noon (10.30am on race days) at The Cross.


Stop for lunch at one of Chester’s fantastic cafés and restaurants before exploring the Rows further, taking full advantage of the wide choice of shops and boutiques the city has to offer and delving into the Grosvenor Shopping Centre to pick up a little something from some of the biggest retailers on the high-street.


If shopping is not your thing, enjoy the delights of a cruise down the river on the ChesterBoat. Tours can last for half an hour or 2 hour tours with commentary and hot and cold beverages are also available on the cruise.


Glorious Gardens


Start your day at Arley Hall & Gardens, near Northwich. One of the finest gardens in Britain; having been lovingly created by the same family over 250 years. Visitors are frequently struck by the warm and intimate atmosphere and the feeling that Arley is a much-cherished family home. Admire the impressive example of a Victorian country house which is Arley Hall and let your group explore the Gardens known for their vitality, variety and historical interest.

at one of the two dining experiences within the centre, giving your group the opportunity to have a look around the 25 plus boutique shops based in and around a beautifully restored Edwardian stable block, offering hundreds of unique items both stylish and ‘on trend’.


Spend the rest of your afternoon taking in the glorious sights at Tatton Park near Knutsford. The 50 acres of gardens have been constantly developing over the past 200 years with each successive owner of Tatton playing their part in its evolution.


Today your group can get an almost complete picture of what the gardens were like back in Edwardian times with features including stunning formal gardens, productive kitchen gardens, glass houses and an extensive arboretum. That’s not all; explore around the Japanese, Italian and Tower gardens. Schedule some time to visit the new Gardener’s Cottage for menus using the freshest of garden produce.


Industrial Heritage


Built by Edwin Clark in 1875 to lift cargo boats the 50 feet in the air from the River Weaver to the Trent & Mersey Canal. Anderton Boat Lift is a great place to take your group to see something a little different.


After taking a look around the visitor centre,


learn about the history of the boat lift and experience it for yourself; board the boat and your guide will take you through the lift and onto a journey down the river for a unique look at the industrial heritage of Northwich.


Jump back on the coach and head off to Ellesmere Port and the National Waterways Museumfor lunch. With its stunning location on the banks of the Mersey and the Manchester Ship Canal, extensive in-door displays, boat trips and historic buildings, the Museum makes a great place for groups to visit in Cheshire.


Groups of over 10 are eligible for discounts on refreshments, boat trips and also on guided tours of the site.


Put a different spin on your day by ending your visit at nearby Cheshire Oaks. The designer outlet has long been a favourite with savvy shoppers looking for quality brands at permanently discounted prices. Your group will love the range of designer brands along with the late night opening hours and wide variety of places to eat.


Natural History


Kick start your day by taking your group on a visit to Chester Zoo; home of over 11,000 wonderful


animals and 400 different species,


including some of the most endangered in the


world. Explore the 110 acres of award-winning enclosures and gardens with daily animal talks available from the zoo’s experts. Groups over 15 coming to Chester Zoo receive discounted admission along with free all day coach parking and free admission for coach drivers.


Head off to Ness Botanic Gardens for lunch at The Kitchen Garden Café for home grown flavours or bring a picnic along to enjoy in the gardens. Set on the Wirral, Ness Botanic Gardens is one of the most special botanical gardens in the UK, if not the world. Take some time to sit and admire the stunning views across the Dee estuary and enjoy the amazing array of rare and wondrous plants.


Another Wirral favourite is Port Sunlight Museummaking up the final stop for the day. Situated in the heart of picturesque Port Sunlight Garden Village created by William Hesketh Lever for his Sunlight soap factory workers in 1888. The museum will allow your group to experience what it was like to live and work in the village during Edwardian and Victorian times. Encounter characters from the village’s past and find out about the architects who designed the house, principle buildings and landscapes.
