The Lion Salt Works – Summer 2014
The Lion Salt Works in the village of Marston, close to Northwich will become the country’s most fascinating heritage attraction when it re-opens in the summer of 2014. Following an £8 million restoration project the new heritage attraction will tell the story of open-pan salt making. It will provide a unique insight into a period in history when Cheshire produced 86 per cent of the nation’s salt. Visitors will be able to explore the restored buildings, discover how the salt works operated and find out how the industry impacted upon Cheshire’s people, economy and landscape. The Lion Salt Works will include an imaginative learning programme, themed play provision and an evolving calendar of events and museum activities.
