THE HORSE GAZETTE

Sugar & Spice - 7 year old, Quarter Horse mare Sugar’s foster home says she longes well and is learning to dis- engage her hips and shoulders. She’s also learning to flex and is easy to catch, lead, and load. She stands well for brushing, fly spray, and farrier work. Her foster home saddled her in December and she stood well. She carried the saddle in the round pen and behaved well. She was evaluated by trainer Mark Lyon on February 4, 2013. It appears Sugar & Spice is broke to ride and did great when ridden in the round pen. She’s a pretty horse who is ready to go home and start work- ing with an adopter. She has a lot of potential!

Don’t miss a day of the summer show season!

We have everything you need to keep your horse healthy and in great show form.

Elliot - 4 year old, grade (poss. Saddlebred cross), gelding. Elliot was not handled before coming to BEHS, but his foster home taught him to wear a halter, lead, be caught, stand for the farrier and be a good equine citizen. He spent April and May 2012 in training and was walking, trotting and cantering under saddle in a round pen. He went to a new foster home in June 2012 and was ridden by their kids in parades and at other events. He was too green for complete novices, but he’s got a lot of potential for someone willing to keep working with him. He could be a work- ing horse, show horse, or trail horse. Cumby, $600

Kit - 8 year old, BLM pony gelding Kit came to BEHS from a neglect case in 2012. His former owner said he was ridden by children. We sent him to a trainer in the summer of 2012 who didn’t think Kit knew much, but he worked with him. His adopter continued with another month of training and then used him for lead line and children’s rides. He’s still green and could use more work, but he’s ready to find a home with kids! Poteet, $500

Hermes - 17 year old, purebred Arabian gelding Hermes was part of a large neglect case. He was removed in a joint effort between BEHS and three other agencies. He was

placed with BEHS by the courts. He was adopted in 2009 but returned when his adopter had to cut back, and he was adopted again in 2012 and returned when he was too much for his adopters. Hermes is a big, beauti- ful Arabian gelding. He is easy to catch in the field, leads well, stands tied and is good for the farrier/hoof trimmer. He stands well to be saddled and bridled. He longes well and loads well into a trailer. His previous adopter trail rode him, and he’s been ridden in his foster home in an arena and round pen. He sometimes tests new riders by wanting to stop working after about 30 minutes of riding. He spent time with a trainer in July 2013 who worked him through this. At first, he would kick out if pushed to continue but after a few rides he stopped balking and worked beautifully for her. Caldwell, $600
