For, locally sourced food represents a buoyant, steadily growing market, driven by great interest in provenance, ethical issues and food miles. Of course, owner Guy Lister stresses
that geography must be accompanied by quality. The shop is offering two types of turkey. "There is the bronze free-range bird
supplied by Mr and Mrs Betts at Otham, who produce to a particularly high standard." Mr Lister is also proud of their geese
and large chickens. "This year we are using the Brook Barn
geese from Great Baddow in Essex. They are fed on home-produced wheat and finished on a cereal-protein diet. And, we have the always popular,
locally reared capon from Mr Richards in Westwell. These are reared to a high level producing a succulent and juicy flavour." All stock, including fruit and
vegetables, can be pre-ordered ready for collection - or for free delivery locally. Orders can also be taken at the local
farmers markets. The last Christmas order date is December 18.
