Couple can expand home
A YOUNG couple are looking forward to establishing a family home in Allington after being given permission to build a two-storey side and rear exten- sion.
Miss Palmer’s proposal for 10
Hazel Avenue was accepted, despite an objection from the owner of No 8, who said the side extension would leave a gap of just 3.8m between the two properties. However, plan- ning guidance allows the gap to be as little as 3m. Miss Upton said: “My family
lived at 8 Hazel Avenue for 50 years and have let out the prop- erty to tenants for the past three years. This extension will re- sult in a significant loss of day- light from the kitchen window.” Miss Palmer said: “My fiancé
has lived in Allington for over 20 years and decided to buy our first house together here. We fell in love with Hazel Avenue. “Before we moved here we
were advised by Maidstone Council that there would not be a problem with extending the property.” The planning committee
could find no grounds for re- fusal. Planning permission was granted by five votes in favour, three against and five absten- tions.

that if any development were to take place, it should not be on this site. They said it should be taken out of the plan because of the environmental impact and
