odi christie has a chance to join some very exclusive company this summer. if the keene, ont. racer can pick up the hindle Pro
sport bike title he will become only the fifth racer in the 27-year history of the class to win the num- ber one plate three times, and just the third to manage the feat in suc- cessive years. Halifax legend Don Munroe set the
standard in the 1990s, when he strung together five straight champi- onships between 1994 and 1998, an achievement that was matched by Jordan Szoke from 2006 to 2010. The other three-time winners are Linnley Clarke (1991, 1992, 1999) and Steve Crevier (who actually won it four times – 1989, 1993, 2001, 2005). It is pretty elite company for
Christie, but one can hardly argue that he is deserving of the accolades. If the Pro Sport Bike fields have been a little small over the past few years, they’ve also been very, very competi- tive. In 2011 Christie faced a season- long challenge from Frank Trombino

and Alex Welsh, with this trio trading race wins most of the year. Last summer Trom- bino put a scare in Christie by winning a sensational season opener while young Raphael Archambault emerged as a legiti-
mate challenger as the season wore on. But despite these challenges Christie has
