Dr. George Dover, Professor and Director of the Department of Pediatrics at Hopkins, joined in on the fun with his grandkids and got his face painted.
Sam Tieman (orange shirt) became a young spokesman for the event. At one point, Sam spent six months in the hospital but today he lives a healthy life thanks to the efforts of Dr. Schwarz and the doctors at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. The Hippity Hop race was one of his favorite events.
Dr. Schwarz, mastermind of Pony Up for Pediatrics, hugs one of her patients who attended the day’s festivities.
Children and adults alike enjoyed ice cream from Miss Twist’s Ice Cream truck throughout the day.
Grace Boston, 2011 Equiery Hunter Award winner and McDonogh student, jumps Just My Luck in the Pony Hunter Derby. She wore purple in memory of Kendall Burrows, a patient at Hopkins Pediatrics who died when she was only nine. Sharon Boston, Grace’s mom, said, “Child Life at the hospital was a great asset to Kendall during her brief life and long stay at Hopkins. Purple was her favorite color, and there were purple fl owers under some of the jumps. Kendall has an amazing way of showing up at these things!”
Johns Hopkins Children’s Center Pediatric Radiology division bested seven teams to become the ultimate victor in the Hippity Hop Challenge. Represented by Dr. Joanna Burton, Dr. Chris Brady and Courtney Haney, the trio raced their pony “Hippocampus” to victory earning $10,000 in research funds for their division.
Thanks to the School of Rock Baltimore, the crowd got to rock out to this amazing group of teen musicians and singers.
