CALEA CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS March 21–24, 2012 I Mobile, Alabama
The Spring CALEA Conference saw 106 agencies presented for Commissioners review; Direccion del Centro de Control Comando Comunicación Y Computo (C4) del Estado de Baja California, Mexico was awarded the first Public Safety Communications Accreditation for an agency outside the U.S.; eight CALEA staff members received Service Recognitions; and the Maryland Transportation Authority Police Force received the CALEA TRI-ARC award.
July 25–28, 2012 I Scottsdale, Arizona
The Summer CALEA Conference saw 89 agencies presented for Commissioners review; the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department received the CALEA TRI-ARC Award; and the Egon Bittner Award was presented to Sheriff Donald F. Eslinger, Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, Sanford, Florida, and to Chief Bruce A. Thomason, Jacksonville Beach Police Department, Florida. Chief Thomason was unable to attend the Scottsdale Conference and Commander Steven Corbitt accepted the award on his behalf. And at a later ceremony, the award was presented to Chief Joseph H. Lumpkin, Sr., Athens-Clarke County Police Department, Athens, Georgia.
November 14–17, 2012 I Jacksonville, Florida
The Fall CALEA Conference saw 121 agencies presented for Commissioners review; the Hawaii County Police Department, Hilo, Hawaii, was the 1000th agency to receive CALEA Law Enforcement Accreditation; the Anne Arundel Community College’s Department of Public Safety, located in Arnold, Maryland, became the first non-sworn department in the country to be awarded accreditation in the new CALEA® Campus Security Accreditation Program; the Egon Bittner Award was presented to Chief Sta- cey L. Cotton, Covington, Georgia Police Department, and to Chief Douglas L. Knight, Vandalia, Ohio Division of Police; and Commissioner James N. Robey, who completed his third and final term as a CALEA Commissioner in 2012, was recognized for his service and unparalleled commitment to CALEA and to public safety excellence.
