Cornish Business Makes A Splash With Its Green Pool!

At the end of March, Hendra Holiday Park in Newquay opened its doors to customers with a revamped environmentally friendly swimming pool thanks to investment from the European Regional Development Fund Convergence Programme which operates across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

The company applied for investment from the Low Carbon Grant Fund to enable their Oasis swimming pool to be retrofitted with the latest range of energy efficiency technologies to make the pool more efficient and carbon friendly. The pool has now been fitted with new equipment for air handling systems, controls and wiring, boilers, heat exchangers and the inclusion of a thermal heat store to collect and supply green energy.

Jenny Milligan Publicity Manager from the ERDF Convergence Support Team said: “With the investment from the ERDF, Hendra Holiday Park can look forward to saving energy by reducing their carbon

emissions. The team at Hendra should be seen as front runners in the Cornish business community by making steps to incorporate ’green’ measures into the future of their business.”

The pool is now projected to make an annual 52% reduction in energy consumption and a 46% reduction in carbon emissions.

Put into perspective, the savings equate to the annual greenhouse gas emissions from 78 passenger vehicles for a year or the CO2 emissions from over 150,000 litres of petrol consumed. Will Dexter, Finance Director of Hendra said: “This is an exciting and ground breaking project. Having undertaken an extremely detailed analysis of our systems’ operations during 2011 and 2012 we have come up with an ‘intelligent system’ which will automatically select the appropriate tools to achieve our required environment depending upon a series of ambient conditions that minimises CO2

. ”

Air Flow Increase For

Variheat Series 3 With the advent of the new building regulations, the Energy Reduction Programme and the ever increasing need to improve performance, the world beating series 3 Variheat from Certikin has just been made even better. The fresh air module has been improved to give a massive 900 m3

/hour air flow.

Here are just some of the benefits that come along with the improved fresh air rate: • Greater fresh air capability • Higher cooling capacity • Higher resistance on fresh air and exhaust ducts, up to 10mm Wg

• Maintains negative pressure in pool hall • Fully ERP compliant • Fully compliant with 2016 Building Regulations • Greater moisture removal capacity • Even more competitive prices Certikin say there’s no need to worry about any changes of sizes, the only change you will notice other than the transformed pool hall environment is that fresh air and exhaust spigots will increase from 6” to 9” diameter to accommodate the improved air flows.

Zodiac Pool Systems has announced that its Jandy®

of variable-speed and two-speed pool pumps are ENERGY STAR® qualified, signifying they meet

or exceed energy-efficiency guidelines. ENERGY STAR is a US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) programme that helps businesses and individuals save money and protect the climate through superior energy efficiency.

Eighteen pumps in total have been certified with each being rigorously tested and proven by a third party EPA-recognised laboratory. Both variable- and two-speed pump options were submitted

Zodiac Earns ENERGY STAR For Multi-Speed Pool Pumps Range Pro Series line

for testing, to help pool professionals and consumers find a pump to suit any pool or spa equipment setup. According to ENERGY STAR, multi- speed pumps save energy by reducing

pump speed; a speed reduction by one-half uses just one-eighth as much energy. Certified pool pumps pay for themselves in five years, run quieter and prolong the life of a pool’s filtration system. On average, ENERGY STAR pumps are 30-72% more energy efficient than a standard model. However, select variable-speed Jandy Pro Series pumps enable pool owners to use up to 90% less energy compared to single-speed pumps.
