WELSH young farmers had plenty to cheer about at the national competition finals held at the NFYFC annual


convention. Builth Wells YFC led the way


with their thirdwin on the trot in the drama finals,while Clynderwen YFC took the honours in the cheer- leading competition. The hotly-contested drama com-


petition sawsupporters pack the OperaTheatreinthe Winter Gardens in Blackpool to cheer on the three finalists,Builth Wells YFC,Nesscliffe YFC from Shropshireand Brampton YFC from Cumbria. After three fantastic and very dif-


ferent performances,itwas Builth Wells YFC whotook the trophyfor the thirdyear running with their original playSevenfor aSecret about the impact of the Second WorldWar on arural Welsh com- munity. The judges praised the club for


their cleverdirection and lovely duets and harmonies. Mairwen Davies,who also won


the best actress award, said: “It’s fantastic and areal shock. We’re just so pleased to come back to national finals and compete again on the national stage.Wehavebeen extremelyluckytoget through to the national finals three years in a row.”

Cheerleading Association awarded thirdplace to Bakewell YFC,from Derbyshire. Trefeglwys YFC repeated their


success in the ballroom dancing competition, coming second to Bakewell YFC in the finals,which were held in the worldfamous Empress Ballroom in Blackpool. The NFYFC AGMwas also held


during the convention, when televi- sion presenter Matt Baker stepped down as the organisation’s president after twoyears in the post. Poul Christensen, chairman of Natural England, waselected as the new president.
