Building on early season successes


PROVING he’s the man to beat this season, Kevin Evans continues to domi- nate the South Wales


sheepdog trials results. Following early success at the


Pembrokeshirespring trials,he took three of the top six places at Llangadogtrial, winning it with Jimmy. With afirst prizeof£100 and a challenging course,this is always akeenly-contested competition. The outrun is the most testing


aspect of the field and measures 370 yards. It starts on the flat sec- tion of the land –wherethe right-

and the sheep needed to be kept moving to allowtime in the shed- ding ring and time to reach the pen.


Kevin ranCalebearly in the morning at run number three, and lost 11 points.They held the lead until run 40, when Nigel Watkins and Jody walked to the post.


Nigel and Jody had abattle


around the course with an awk- ward Suffolk cross in their packet and Jody impressed everyone with howshe handled the year- ling.

said he waspleased with howthe trial had gone and wasimpressed by the enthusiasm of the younger volunteers whohad helped pre- parethe field, set up the course

and the youngsters have been great. It makes my job easy,” he said.


All the trial proceeds go to


local causes,including the YFC, primary school and playgroup. The committee has decided


thatnextyear,due its popularity and demand forruns,the trial will be pre-entry. Secretary Catrin Davies said:


“Entry formswill onlybeaccept- ed from January 1st, 2014 –any I get sent beforethen will be going on my fire.”
