Members go back to their roots at field day


TRADITIONAL and mod- ern rural skills were show- cased at the Wales YFC


field day in Rhuthin. Throughout the dayyoung


people from across Wales took part in competitions which retain close links with the agricultural industry and rural skills such as the ATVchallenge,fencing and stockjudging. Aled Johnson, Wales YFC’s


activities and international com- mittee chairman said thatthe event had been aresounding suc- cess.

and supports,wewereableto hold afull dayofcompetitions formembers.Each year we take the Field Daytoadifferent part of Wales,and this year we were fortunate to be hosted by Ynys Môn, Eryri and Clwyd.” “Each of the competitions we


hold at the Field Dayrequires a lot of work on the members’ part. “Manyofthem require


detailed knowledge of safety reg- ulations and best practice,so thereisastrong element of infor- mal learning taking place,which can onlybeapositive thing that


adds to the overall spectacle of the event.” After afull dayofcompetition


at Rhuthin Livestock Market, the federation gaining the highest marks wasRadnor,with Pembrokeshireinsecond place and Gwent Federation in third. The event wassponsored by


theFUWand supported by many local businesses,which loaned stock and machinery forthe vari- ous competitions. Wales YFC also owethe suc-


cess of the daytothe judges and stewardswho gave their time to assist with the event.
