Invicta satellite Plan to add home to ‘garage’

school scheme AMAIDSTONE grammar school could soon have a satellite site in the west of the county. Valley Invicta Academies

Trust (VIAT) has been working with KCC to propose an annex of Invicta Grammar School in Sevenoaks. Valley Park School is also part of the trust and Of- sted has rated both schools out- standing. KCC leader Paul Carter said: “Thousands wanted us to ex- plore the provision of grammar school education in the Sevenoaks area and this part- nership shows KCC’s commit- ment to reflecting those views.” Mike Whiting, KCC cabinet member for education, learning and skills, said he had sent ed- ucation secretary Michael Gove a joint proposal for grammar provision in Sevenoaks. Dr Philip Limbert, chief exec-

utive officer of Valley Invicta Academies Trust, and Julie Der- rick, head teacher of Invicta Grammar School, said: “KCC and VIAT working together on this proposal is good news for the 2,600 young people in Maidstone who are proud stu- dents at Valley Park and Invicta Grammar School.” In a letter to parents and car-

ers of Invicta pupils, Mrs Der- rick added: “Our partnership will be mutually beneficial.”

Four years ago, applicants Mr R&SYadave were given plan- ning permission for a garage at Pine Lodge, Somerfield Road, Maidstone – despite it featuring two windows, patio doors, Velux skylights, a chimney, full plumbing and a draft-reducing porch fronted by an entrance door.

NORTH Loose Residents’ Asso- ciation (NLRA) has applied to Maidstone Borough Council to be designated as a neighbour- hood forum, having already been approved as a neighbourhood area, according to Neighbour- hood Planning Regulations 2012. If the application is agreed by

the council, NLRA can prepare its own neighbourhood plan. Neighbourhood plans were introduced by the Localism Act and give communities a chance to plan their local area. A plan can cover a range of issues that are locally important, such as community facilities that are needed and the green spaces

garage. Their supporting state- ment says an additional front door lobby would be erected to the side, to match that of the garage building. Maidstone Council will determine the planning application. In April last year, planning consent was granted for the main residential property at Pine Lodge to be converted into six flats. Cllr James Ross, a borough member for Bridge ward, argued the scheme would harm the unique character of large houses with gardens that forms much of Somerfield Road.
