VOTERS will go to the polls in May to vote for their Kent county councillors. All 84 seats are up for grabs in the county,
with the exception of Medway, including nine in Maidstone. Polling takes place on Thursday, May 2,
and polling stations around the countywill be open from 7am to 10pm, with the count- ing taking place at several main venues. County councillors use local knowledge
to help the council make decisions on the essential services provided, including edu- cation, roads, social care, youth services and libraries. Kent County Council is one of the largest councils in the country and provides over 300 services for about 1.6 million residents. This year's elections could well yield a
few surprises, with all of the main parties fighting all of the main seats – accompanied by a strong presence of Green and UKIP candidates. There is one exception – the Labour candidate for Maidstone Rural South, Stephen Taylor, was ruled a few days too young to stand.

He is only too aware of the pressure tactics used by some businesses and that maintaining a smart home can be tricky, especially for single parents, the widowed and elderly. Paul said: "I was widowed at an early age and so understand what it is like to be on your own - even the simplest of

"I hear many stories of salesmen who are almost impossible to get rid of and unwanted phone calls after a quote. I believe in giving one quote and then leaving people to make up their mind. I treat people the way I would like to be treated myself. People will have my home number and can call me at any time. I am not selling a product or spinning a line I am selling myself - my future business is in the hands of my present customers".
