editor LETTER FROM THE
As mothers, from the moment we hold our children in our arms for the fi rst time, we are changed. From that point on, every bump, bruise, scrape, heartbreak, and fear is something we feel as well. Their pain becomes our pain. And every one of their proud moments becomes ours as well. The emotions they feel are felt by us, but ten times deeper. It is a love like no other.
Being a mom is indeed one of the most diffi cult and challenging jobs in existence. It is hard work that never ends. And yet, if you ask a mom, any mom, why she loves being a mom, I’m sure whatever she tells you, her answer would lead back to the same theme… the rewards far outweigh the day-to-day struggles. I agree whole-heartedly.
Here are some other things I love about being a mom… • I love seeing my children display generosity, kindness and compassion to others. • I love witnessing the pure innocence that comes with their young age. • I love watching their relationship as siblings develop as I hear them scheme from another room and stick up for each other when they need to. • I love participating in spontaneous song and dance parties that happen at any given time. • I love seeing them fi ll up with pride when they ace a test, score a goal, help a friend, conquer a fear, perform at a piano recital, catch a fi sh, and the list goes on. • I love making time to do the fun things in life like color Easter eggs, go trick-or-treating and bake Christmas cookies. • I love knowing that at any time my children can make me smile. And, at all times, they make me proud. To see them learn, explore, grow, laugh and even cry can turn any ordinary moment into an extraordinary one.
I love that even on my most exhausting days, I am honored that I get to be “mom” to two of God’s greatest blessings.
And, being a mother has made me realize how thankful I am for my mom. I appreciate her for everything she did for my sister and me, everything she gave up for us, and everything she continues to do for our families. I love you, Mom!
To all moms, grandmoms, stepmoms, birth moms, foster moms, and any mom I missed, Happy Mother’s Day!
