ilitary families on the First Coast know all about what it means to serve our country and the sacrifice it takes to do so. However, military families don't have to do it alone.


Tere are plenty of support services and programs readily available for those in the military and their families.


Fleet and Family Readiness Programs at Naval Air Station (NAS) Jacksonville and Naval Station (NS) Mayport have plenty of services and programs for those in the Navy and their families. Services and programs include:


• Deployment readiness services and support programs • Family employment readiness program


• Life skills classes such as anger management workshops, stress management workshops and military spouse 101 classes


• Resume assistance and job search • Personal finance management • COMPASS, a spouse-to-spouse mentoring program • Relocation assistance program • Youth and children programs


• Ombudsman programs - Ombudsmen are spouses of service members and are appointed by commanding officers to serve as a link between a command's leadership and its family members. Ombudsmen are there for military families to answer questions and refer them to helpful programs such as Family Readiness Groups (FRGs) and spouse clubs.

Greater Jacksonville Area USO offers services and benefits to provide "help on the home front." Services and benefits include:


• Free cyber cafes (with computers equipped with Skype) for families to keep in touch

• Help with deployment and homecoming celebrations • Special events and activities for families


•Mayport USO offers free meals twice a month to young service members and their families.

Te Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society provides interest-free loans and scholarships for families that qualify, financial counseling, budgeting for baby classes, a spouse-to-spouse mentoring program and a visiting nurse program, which provides education and information about health-related topics.
