TEACHER AND STUDENT SHARE A PASSION FOR RANCH SORTING
Austin, Texas, March 9, 2013 – For Vicki Borchgardt, horses have always been a big part of life. Although she started out just showing, this Belleville, Texas resident now enjoys spending her time in the exciting sport of Ranch Sorting.
Prior to her start in Ranch Sorting, Borchgardt spent her time showing hunter jumpers. After taking the suggestion from a friend and stepping into the Ranch Sorting arena, she was immediately hooked; and the fact that her mare loved the fast-paced sport was a huge plus.
“I love it because the people are really friendly. In this sport you have to draw a partner, so you better be their friend,” said Borchgardt. The atmosphere in Ranch Sorting is a completely new feeling from her show jumping roots.
Borchgardt’s trainer, Pam Schooley, is making a name for herself on the Ranch Sorting circuit. Once a student like Borchgardt, this 20 year-old cowgirl has climbed the ranks and is now known in the industry as an excellent horse trainer. “I had done other things with rodeo, but once I started Ranch Sorting I really liked it. I bought a horse for $250 and did well,” said Schooley. Three years ago Schooley won her class at Rodeo Austin, and in 2012 she wrapped up a year of showing with two saddles, six buckles, and her own trailer and cash prizes.
The Rodeo Austin Ranch Sorting was held Friday, March 8th and Saturday, March 9th in Ol’ McDonald’s Barn.
