T
he RSNC Regional Finals are their way of introducing their brand of Ranch Sorting to contestants in all parts of the country. Since the association prides itself as being a grass roots organization for contestants at all
levels of ability, they want to be sure that everyone is aware they can be competitive even at their bigger events and the Regionals are proof positive. Many brand new members are joining even at the Regionals and are out there winning.
“The response from contestants about our Regional events has been more positive than ever so far this year,” said RSNC President, Dave Wolfe. “We have completed 3 out of 5 and it is both exciting and rewarding to meet the members and get so much positive feed back about how much they enjoy and appreciate the Association rules and rating system. Additionally we get to show off our RSNC staff so they can meet all of the members they talk to on the phones throughout the year and put faces with names.”
eastern regional super sort The first regional was in Morristown, Tenn., and had 943 teams competing.
The World Series was the talk of the event with many wanting to get in the top ten so they could win the saddles and also come to the National Finals to compete for the 4-Star Trailers and all of the added cash. Mike Hughes and Mike Greer deserve a big pat on the back for jumping in and helping to make that show run so smoothly. There were four sort pens set up and in the bigger classes all four were used so the show could run fast and contestants could enjoy their evenings. The latest finish time was 5:30 pm which makes for a very enjoyable weekend. Lynn Goforth supplied excellent cattle and they stayed strong and fair all weekend long.
north central regional super sort The second Regional was in Douglas, Wyo. There were once again almost
1,000 teams there to support the event and compete for the saddles, buckles and other prizes. The weather was absolutely perfect with temperatures in the 60’s all weekend. Moving the event north out of Colorado cost us some Colorado teams that didn’t make the trip, but it also gained some new teams coming out of Utah, Montana, Wisconsin, and the Dakotas. The Wyoming State Fairgrounds is a great facility with a big enough arena for all four sorting pens and lots of nice stalls for contestants staying for the weekend. This is right out the back door for the Wolfe family so they and their staff ran a smooth and efficient event that once again made for early finish times and enjoyable dinners and after-parties in the swimming pools. There’s just something about kids and swimming pools that puts smiles on everyone’s faces and give us all lots to talk about the next day.
north eastern regional super sort Third on the list of Regionals Finals was the very next weekend in Logan
Township, N.J. This is a brand new event for RSNC and there were concerns that the support may not be there. However, the membership showed up and competed hard to make a total of almost 700 teams for the weekend. This has to be considered a success as this is the first time that RSNC has ventured so far to the North East.
“We considered this show as a promotion, more than a production just because we wanted to show those in the North East the RSNC appreciates their support and that we would also do what we promised by returning the favor even if it didn’t financially work. One thing we learned is that cattle in the far North East are hard to find. Once again Lynn Goforth provided excellent cattle and they were appreciated by the RSNC members that attended. I believe the RSNC members enjoyed the show and many are now coming the our National Finals because of it.”
By the time this issue of The Ranch Sorter is out both the South Central and the Western Regional will also be complete and RSNC will have completed 5 major events in a short, seven-week period. This will be just in time for them to get wired, fired and inspired for the National Finals that is just a few short weeks away.
Winners are pictured on the following pages from the first three Regional events. The July-August issue of the Ranch Sorter will have results and photos of the last two held in Fort Worth, Texas and Carson City, Nev.
