Councillor keeping the cars moving
Councillor Armand Toms spent several hours redirecting traffic at the junction of St Martin’s Road and Barbican Road.
Many visiting motorists had either not seen signs at Widegates, or had been confused by signs on the approach to Looe saying ‘Sandplace Road open’ and had continued, only to find that St Martin’s Road was closed.
Local people expressed their thanks to cllr Toms for going ‘beyond the call of duty’ in telling visitors about the diversion route.
Network manager for Cormac Highways and Environment East Paul Allen said

that additional signage has now been erected at Barbican Road junction and at Widegates in order to assist motorists finding their way to the town centre and Polperro.
Discouraging the campers
Looe Town Council is to take renewed action to prevent overnight camping at Hannafore.
A motion submitted by cllr Brian Galipeau, that the council engage formally and urgently with Cornwall Council on effective measures to prevent overnight camping in Hannafore Conservation Area and elsewhere, was unanimously supported by members of the council.
Several members of the public present at the meeting of Looe Town Council’s
environment and public protection committee spoke for the motion.
Meanwhile, cllr Galipeau said that informal action would also be taken, possibly in co-operation with residents, including the issuing of ‘polite notices.’
‘It was clear that residents wanted this moving forward without delay,’said cllr Galipeau.
‘Residents have noticed the problem getting worse since the council last addressed it in 2007 and new signs were erected.’
