The Royal Society run an annual pairing scheme for MPs to join up with an academic and shadow each other for a number of days. I had the pleasure of


pairing with Dr Vivian Scott from the University of Edinburgh. Dr Scott is a scientist who specialises in Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technology.


Dr Scott spent a week


with me at Westminster where he got a flavour of the role of an MP and also spent some time seeing how scientific and public policy is created and developed. I also spent a day with


him and his colleagues at King’s Buildings learning more about the science and technology behind CCS. It was an enlightening exchange. I’m


now far more knowledgeable about CCS and also the issues around research and development at the University of Edinburgh. Thank you to the Royal
