n Thursday 14th March, as part of the St Leonards- Mayfield 150th anniversary, the School hosted a public lecture by Colin, Lord Moynihan titled:


The London 2012 Games - - Can There Be A Lasting Legacy?


From 2005 until after the Games, Lord Moynihan (himself a silver medallist at the 1980 Moscow Olympics) was both chairman of the British Olympic Association and director of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games. His talk gave a fascinating insight into the process of delivering a triumphantly successful event.

The 2012 Games promised to regenerate the East End of London and to encourage the British, en masse, to take up a sport. Lord Moynihan - who was the Conservative Minister For Sport 1987-1990 and who currently sits on the International Olympic Committee’s International Relations Commission - outlined the ways in which these aims are being taken forward.


The lecture was of enormous interest to both members of the School (which has its own demonstrable commitment to sport) and to those members of the public who attended.

continues on schedule. The Centre, with its small group-seminar rooms, digital-learning suite, lecture room and independent study chambers, will cater for the needs of the senior girls. It will provide an integrated space for all the School’s A-Level students.
