Ofsted rating OFSTED inspectors who went to the Creative Minds Montes- sori pre-school at Offham Methodist Church in Teston Road found the provision to be satisfactory. The key person system helped children form secure at- tachments, and communication and language skills developed well because of the skilled practitioners’ approach. Fine physical skills and mathematical skills were well promoted and practitioners placed strong emphasis on per- sonal, social and emotional de- velopment. To achieve a good rating, in- spectors suggested children’s progress was monitored using the Early Years Foundation Stage framework, and equal consideration was given to all seven areas of learning. The book area should be

made more cosy and inviting, andlabelsshouldbeusedto boost literacy skills.

Dog mess offender fined £220

A SNODLAND man has been ordered to pay £220 for failing to clear up after his dog after being caught on video by a neighbour. David Lee was walking his

dog on the grassed area in Salt- ings Road in October last year when the incidentwas captured on film. The footage clearly showed

the animal fouling near a promi- nent red bin intended for dog waste, and the owner making

no attempt to clean up the mess. Lee admitted the offence at Sevenoaks Magistrates Court and was fined £100 with £100 towards the prosecution costs of Tonbridge and Malling Council and a victim surcharge of £20. The neighbour reported the offence to the council, and as the dog owner had already re- ceived a fixed penalty notice for a previous incident, the author- ity’s prosecution policy dictated that he should be taken to court.
