THE ANNUAL book week at Snodland C of E Primary School culminated in a fantas- tic fancy dress competition, with almost every pupil dressed as a book character. The Rev Hugh Broadbent, chairman of the school gover- nors, assisted by fellow gov- ernors, Sandra Golding and Trevor Wooding had the task of choosing a winning girl and boy in each year. Organiser Nicole Chapman
said: “What a wonderful book week the children have expe- rienced. The theme was ‘Fan- tasia – things are not always as they seem’ and the children were taken on a journey to the unknown, where they discov- ered a world of strange crea- tures and enchanted lands.” The week began with class visits to the book fair and a

storytelling afternoon where the children explored some of their favourite fantasy stories through words and actions. A writing competition fol- lowed, in which the pupils were given a prop and a char- acter name around which to base their writing, and the next day they had a special act of
worship where they were taken into an enchanted land. Miss Chapman said: “Each
class has been involved in drama workshops, reading sa- faris and the big book swap. We all had a fantastic end to the week with a Mad Hatter’s tea party where we enjoyed a quiz and a slice of cake.”
MPto take part in football tournament CHATHAM and Aylesford Member of Parliament, Tracey Crouch, will be one of the referees at Snodland five-a-side football tournament on June 22 and 23. Organised by Snodland Town Football Club, last year’s event at
Potyns Sportsground attracted 96 teams and hundreds of support- ers. It is open to Under 7s through to Under 18s, plus men’s teams. The Under 7s and 8s are non-competitive. The MP is a qualified coach, but not a referee, so she will officiate

Diary events SNODLAND Fireworks night
will be held at Potyns Sports- ground on November 6. The Remembrance Day Pa-
rade from Holmesdale Tech- nology College, down Malling Road into the High Street and Constitution Hill to the ceme- tery will be on November 10. Christmas arrives in Snod-
land on November 30, when Father Christmas will travel round the town in his sleigh, and the lights will be switched on.

The guest speaker at the meeting will be from Kent CAN. This is a county organisation which exists to support and promote the Voluntary and Community Sector in Kent and Medway.
Kent CAN offers advice and information to voluntary and community groups about grant funding for their projects. They also offer a wide range of information and training.
Local groups and organisations which are looking to find grant funding should find this really helpful.
