General Information
WORK EXPERIENCE Work experience is an integral element of all courses in the college. Participants are required to take a minimum of 10 days placement for all level 5 courses*. Learners are placed in carefully selected businesses to complete their work experience.
STUDENT COUNCIL The student council is democratically elected each year from the student body. The student council provides an opportunity for learners to state their concerns and to make suggestions for improvements in issues that directly concern them, the council is asked to deliberate on and then offer recommendations on various aspects of college policy.
PASTORAL CARE The College operates a ‘tutoring system' where each class group is designated a teacher, who acts as a tutor. The purpose is to ‘identify and be identified' with the class. It affords the opportunity to build a rapport and respect where issues are more quickly identified. A range of supports including career advice and professional counselling are provided.
MAINTENANCE GRANTS Learners taking further education courses are eligible for PLC maintenance grants. These grants are means tested and depend on individual circumstances. Students should apply on-line to
www.studentfinance.ie
Students attending our courses may also be eligible for Department of Social Protection allowances.
STUDENTS WITH PARTICULAR EDUCATIONAL NEEDS MCC welcomes applications from students with disabilities, medical conditions and special educational needs. The entry requirements for a student with particular educational needs are the same as those for any other student. Students who have a special educational need are asked to provide the College with the relevant information at the time of application. The College will make every effort to reasonably accommodate their needs subject to resources available. The College will inform the student of the additional services it can provide. Should a student fail to notify the College of a specific need at the time of application the College may not be in a position to assist at a later date.
