• Grant Thornton has strengthened its team with 12 new appointments, bringing the total number of staff in the Southampton office to 133. The new employees span VAT, audit, personal tax and financial planning specialisms, with some taking on support roles such as personal assistant, audit coordinator and IT technician. Stephen Mills (second row on left), office managing partner, said that despite the current economic challenges, the business had experienced steady growth and gained new clients from a range of sectors, consequently recruiting across key practice areas to support this. Joe Francis (front right) is the most recent to join, as senior VAT manager, and brings with him more than 15 years‘ experience in the profession. Other new hires include: Haley Kitchen, Guy Blackburn, Ed Forster, James Lambert, Martin Vines, Melanie Kitcher, Sean McDermott, Charles Cavendish, Matthew Gurd, Chris Ridley and Vicki Palmer.


• Worldwide logistics company PSP has added to its growing team with the appointment of Carly Parrick as global account manager. The appointment comes shortly after the firm, which specialises in boat transportation, delivered yet another year of sales growth within its marine division. Parrick will be responsible for ensuring that UK and overseas boat brokers and dealers benefit from an impeccable service. She will work alongside the logistics and transport teams to report back to clients on the latest stage of their shipments as they take place, and be a key part of the team at this year‘s PSP Southampton Boat Show.


• Southampton Property Association (SPA) has a new chairman for 2013-14, chartered surveyor David McGougan, an associate director at regional commercial property consultancy Hughes Ellard. The SPA is an organisation for property professionals in and around the city, with 280 members.


• After five years with Coffin Mew Solicitors, Steven Wood has been made a partner and will also become the head of dispute resolution. His appointment is in line with the firm‘s focus on partner-led business development. He will work with fellow partner Tim Gleeson and another newly-appointed partner, Catherine Fisher.

• Following its launch, Quantuma Restructuring has already expanded with the recruitment of four new team members to manage the growing pipeline: Sarah Jackson (left), Adam Price (second from left), Christine Longman (centre) and Stacey Sangster (right). Jackson, a chartered accountant having previously worked with the team at RSM Tenon, will be managing the practice accounts. Price, a senior administrator who has joined from a local firm, brings a broad range of corporate and personal recovery experience and will be assisting the partners with case management. Longman has worked with the team previously and joins as a cashier and employee claims administrator, and Sangster, an experienced personal assistant, brings a background in the banking industry. Quantuma is currently based in Southampton but has plans to grow organically and open additional offices in the near future. Partners Paul Goddard and Carl Jackson are pictured front centre.


• Law firm Clarke Willmott has strengthened its private client team in Southampton with two new appointments to support its growth. Anthony Whitwell joins as a partner from Penningtons Solicitors, where he has previously been head of private client. Ruth Morris also joins the team as a partner from Withers, where she spent seven years specialising in agricultural and residential property.


• Kate Bradbury, a legal specialist in franchise agreements and other commercial contracts, has joined Graeme Quar & Co, which has offices at Fareham and Petersfield. Previously a partner at Warner Goodman‘s commercial department in Southampton, Bradbury has advised on numerous British high street franchise agreements, including brand- name hair salons, opticians and fast-food outlets. Graeme Quar & Co, now 13-strong, advises companies, small-to-medium enterprises, partnerships and sole traders.


• Stewart Dunn, former MD of Newsquest Hampshire, has been appointed managing director by integrated marketing communications agency Carswell Gould, to spearhead its ambitious growth plans. Dunn, who has worked in media all his life and was awarded an honorary doctorate by Southampton Solent University in 2011 for his contribution to the media industry, will take a lead role in developing the agency, as well as its portfolio of national, international and regional clients, which includes the Mayflower Theatre, University of Southampton, Grant Thornton and PSP.
