A regional distributor of fuels and lubricants, WP Group has been ranked by ExxonMobil as top lubricants distributor for the UK, Ireland, Scandinavia, France, Germany and the Netherlands.

As a global leader and the operator of Britain‘s largest oil refinery, the ExxonMobil award is among the most honoured and respected in the industry. WP Group has 100-plus staff and serves thousands of businesses and households around the central south coast and London.

Operating out of Fawley Oil Refinery, WP Group is one of Hampshire‘s largest privately-run companies with group revenues of £200m and, perhaps best-known as a fuels distributor, is focused on strengthening and developing its Mobil lubricants division.

Lisette Norman, newly-appointed lubricants sales and marketing manager, said: ”This achievement will go a long way to cementing our name across the UK and wider Europe as a recognised quality lubricants supplier and solutions provider.”

Following silver in 2011, the gold recognises ‘outstanding performance‘ in its field. Business excellence criteria for the top spot included sales growth in Mobil flagship and premium lubricants, world-class workforce development, operational excellence and marketing program implementation.

David Fairchild, WP Group‘s managing director, said: ”This award is testament to the continued investment the company is making into its lubricants business and the Mobil brand. Since rebranding only 18 months ago, the team has worked extremely hard to develop a recognised and positive company identity.

”The gold award is tribute to the growth of the company and the board‘s vision to invest when other companies have taken a more cautionary approach. With a focused leadership and a

new-found confidence, WP Group is destined to achieve great things in 2013.”

Added Darren Borras, WP‘s group commercial director: ”This is a particularly difficult award to win because the competition is very strong in our cluster of eight countries. It was a real team effort as the criteria encompasses every aspect of WP Group‘s Mobil lubricants operation and our success demonstrates WP‘s focus on quality and processes as well as our brand, marketing and business performance.

”The award proudly illustrates the developments in our business over the past few years and the board is committed to continuing to develop WP Group into a significant brand and leading solutions-focused business.”

Holding onto name was no longer an Easy option for network group

Portsmouth‘s Easy Group has rebranded Easy Networks, established in 1995, as IUGO, meaning bind together and connect.

The four businesses provide networks, mobiles, telephones and computers.

Richard Gwilliam, managing director of Easy Group, said: ”Easy Networks has steadily grown since we started trading. We underwent expansion a few years ago with the creation of three new companies, creating an additional 20 jobs.

”Our success and marketing activity caught the attention of entrepreneur Stelios Haji- ioannou, founder of easyjet. We were accused of intellectual property infringement which was

causing confusion in the marketplace. It was never our intention or belief that our services would be associated with an airline, hotels, and a cruise ship or car rental business.

”To avoid costly legal action, we agreed to change our name and give up all that was Easy. We are a highly-respected and trusted SME that has been trading for more than 18 years but we cannot afford a financial fight with a multi- million pound organisation such as Stelios.

”I am glad this dispute is over and we can get on with growing the business. It wasn‘t easy to agree the new brand and style, but I am delighted with it and we have retained our pink branding.”
