THE VINE Hi gang. Thanks for taking time to read KUDZOO, the maga-

zine of Southern music, food and lifestyle. This issue we pay trib- ute to our fallen brother Dan Toler, who recently passed away after a long fight with Lou Gherig’s Disease. Dan was not only one of the finest guitarists I ever knew, he was also one of the finest people. He will be greatly missed. Also in this issue, Randy Joe Galloway interviews Mike Estes all

about his band Skinny Molly, and we debut the first chapters of a fictional novel written by Galloway. We are happy to present the second in our three part series

spotlighting the photography of Kirk West, and Roxanne Lark debut’s her new travel column, “On the Road with Rocky.” Derek Halsey, our “go to writer” for all things bluegrass, old

time, pickin’ and Americana music turns in a great preview of this year’s Merlefest, the first since the passing of the iconic Doc Wat- son, who’s late son Merle inspired the huge festival to begin with. Roxanne Lark turns us on to a pair of excellent seafood restau-

rants and presents another of her fine photographic portfolios in “Southern Lens.” We present new CD reviews including Skinny Molly, Devon Allman, Drivin’ & Cryin,’ David Bowie, The Black Feathers, The Charlie Daniels Band and Kathy Mattea. By the way, we welcome your letters, and the best ones will be

published. We will always answer you back regardless. Drop us a line at michaelbuffalosmith@gmail.com And remember, KUDZOO is interactive! Click on the URL in

any advertisement or article, or e-mail address, and open the tar- get link in a new browser window! Looking for back issues? Just visit www.universalmusictribe.com, and click on “KUDZOO Archives.” Also of note, some folks have told me they didn’t real- ize that Kudzoo can be downloaded to your computer. Just look for the download button in the upper left of the screen when viewing the magazine and download it. It has a built in reader, so you will still be able to flip pages and do everything you can do in the online version. If you have anything you’d like to see in KUDZOO, drop us a

note. We’d love to hear from you. Also, if you have a product or service you’d like to advertise, we would love to work with you.

That’s all for now. Keep it Real. Keep it Southern. Michael Buffalo Smith
