Viagra nurse can keep job
Lee helps Stones find future stars
A NURSE at Maidstone Hospital has been declared still fit to practise after facing charges of inappropriately obtaining a pre- scription for Viagra and using it to buy the drug from a pharmacy in 2009. Rajesh Gobin, who worked on the neuro- rehabilitation unit, was also charged with forging a hospital parking permit in 2007. During a hearing at the Old Bailey in Feb-
ruary, the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) found Mr Gobin guilty by admission of photocopying a colleague’s parking per- mit as she was about to go on maternity leave, with the intention of using it himself. However, when it came to the charges re-
lating to the Viagra prescription, the panel could not be certain Mr Gobin understood hospital policy sufficiently to know he was not entitled to receive a prescription writ- ten by a colleague, a doctor at the hospital in the way he did. For this reason the NMC found Mr Gobin had not obtained the pre- scription or the drug inappropriately. The panel found Mr Gobin had been dis- honest andwas guilty of misconduct. How- ever, because of his good behaviour, and the fact he had learnt from his mistakes, they did not believe him a risk to patients and declared his fitness to practise was not im- paired. The panel also noted that Mr Gobin was
given a formal verbal warning in 2007 over the parking permit issue. Mr Gobin was not present at the hearing
andwas not represented but theNMC’s case presenter read out a statement from him.
