Work due to start on homes regeneration

WORK should soon be starting on the first phase of Golding Homes’ £38m regeneration scheme in ParkWood. Maidstone Council granted planning permission for the demolition of 100 flats south of WallisAvenue, bordering Brish- ing Lane, Longshaw Road and the recreation ground, and the introduction of 69 new homes – including 51 houses. The scheme also includes the devel- opment of a new local commu- nity and commercial centre. More than 50 families have

been relocated and half of the houses due for demolition are empty.Acontractor has been ap- pointed to carry out the work. Chris Blundell, Golding Homes’ director of regeneration and development, said: “This scheme will transform the whole area. There is a high level of housing need in Maidstone. Res- idents and ourselves are keen to get on with it. Funding is in place, the contractor is in place and expectations are high.” The exact percentage of af- fordable homes in the scheme was not specified. Most families had opted to

move out of Park Wood, with only nine choosing to remain, Golding Homes’ Richard Can- nacott told members of the Park Wood Multi-Agency Partner- ship (MAPS). The new scheme was designed

to change the demographics of the area, and people on the hous- ing waiting list would be asked to bid for homes in the usual way, he said.
