Drones over Pennsylvania

HARRISBURG – The Federal Avia- tion Association has authorized at least four drones to fl y in restricted airspace over Fort Indiantown Gap, a large military installation in central Pennsylvania about 25 miles from Harrisburg. The drones are used for training and equipped with several cameras, including one with infrared capabili- ties, according to the FAA authoriza- tion.

President Clarke reviewed issues affecting Philadel- phia residents both city- wide and at the neighbor- hood level such as AVI. Clarke went on to review plans he supports that could mitigate the effects of AVI such as House Bill No. 388 and 389. Clarke also ref- erenced the Five Rebuilding Philadelphia Bills he intro- duced in City Council last week. Nothing less than the amendment proposed by the His- torical Commission’s Executive Director Jon Farnham to Section 9 of the Commission’s Rules and Regulations. Section 9 requires property owners of historically designated buildings to make a “good faith eff ort” to sell a property before seeking demoli- tion approval from the Historical Commission based on fi nancial hardship. Farnham has gone on record saying that he would like to remove the requirement stating that the property owner has to make a “good faith eff ort” to sell the property before applying for demolition. According to state- ments issued by Farnham, he has introduced the amendments to strengthen the commission’s de- fense when opponents challenge hardship rulings with the L & I Review Board. And that’s precisely why critics oppose changes to Section 9 of the continued on page 2
