LOCAL, NATIONAL ‘LOVE THE BUS’ EVENTS RAISE AWARENESS, APPRECIATION FOR SCHOOL BUS DRIVERS More than 200 Calvert County, Md.,

school bus drivers were honored last month in the district’s third annual “Love the Bus” celebration. Ed Cassidy, director of transportation for Calvert County Public Schools, said the event took place on Valen- tine’s Day. Beach Elementary School students gave their bus drivers snack bags, while Appeal Elementary students made Valentine’s Day cards to give to drivers, along with pastries. “Bus drivers deserve a special ‘thank you’

for helping get each child’s school day off to a good start, and for helping each school day end on a positive note,” said Cassidy. Tis year’s national “Love the Bus” event

in Arlington, Va., featured former U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood as the guest speaker. ASBC invited locally elected officials to join the Feb. 12 celebra- tion as well. “National School Bus Safety Week (October 21-25, 2013) has long needed a
