Long-service awards for coastguards
THE work of long-serving members of Portreath coast- guard team has been recog- nised at a ceremony. Members of the 12-strong team gathered at the Portreath Arms where chief coastguard Peter Dymond presented long-service cer- tificates to former station officer Alan Roberts (vale- dictory certificate for 47 years), station officer Mark
Roberts (30 years’ service medal and bar), Jim Dennis (20 years’ service medal), Richard Whiting (20 years’ service medal) and Andrew Mills (valedictory certifi- cate for six years’ service).
Community
Current station officer Mark Roberts explained that he had grown up with the coastguard service through
his father Alan, and said that for him and the other members of the team it was a way of life and a means of serving the community. The work of the award winners and their col- leagues was praised by coastguard sector manager Matt Pavitt, who said they did an incredible job, giving up their own time to help people in difficulties.
JIM Dennis with his medal ALAN Roberts is rewarded for his 47 years of service
