Chris lives in Catonsville and works as an operations manager for Northrop Grum- man. She has a math degree from Drew University in New Jersey and an electrical engineering degree from Georgia Tech. She is a lifetime member of the Maryland Horse

Future Secretary: Valerie Ormond
Following a career in naval intelligence, Valerie retired as a Captain in 2009, and has since pursued interests in writing and with horses. Her fi rst novel, Believing In Horses, about a young girl saving unwanted horses in Maryland, received the Gold Medal in the Mili- tary Writer’s Society of America 2012 Book Awards, among other honors and awards. Four other books published her nonfi ction stories in 2011 and 2012, and
she works part time for government and industry on writing projects. Valerie is a certifi ed riding instructor with the Certifi ed Horsemanship Association, competes in the National Capital Adult Equestrian League, is a member of the Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association and serves on the Board of Directors for Desire Ministries, a rescue and therapy nonprofi t association. A member of several writing organizations including American Horse Publications, she also helped develop the Voice For T e Horse’s International Children’s Writing Competition program. She served on the Prince George’s County Equine Industry Task Force and chaired the Maryland Horse Council’s Save T e Horse Farms Com- mittee. She also belongs to numerous veterans’ organizations. She and her husband, Jaime Navarro, own three horses boarded at

Current Elected Member: Christy Claggett Christy owns and operates Larking Hill Farm and
Training Center in Harwood, MD where she reha- bilitates and trains race horses, show jumpers and fox hunters. She is a trainer, owner and breeder of race- horses, an ex-amateur jockey, and an active member of the Maryland Horse Breeders Association. Christy is also Joint Master of Foxhounds of the Marlborough Hunt Club and competes in show jumping. Christy is

Current Elected Member: Crystal Kimball Crystal is the owner and publisher of T e Equiery.
She rode on the University of Maryland equestrian team in college and has been involved with hunters, combined training, dressage, and foxchasing. She has been a member of MHC since 1991, and serves on the board of directors as a director-at-large repre- senting the business membership. Crystal also serves

Current Elected Member: Judy Smith Judy has been involved in the horse industry, es-
pecially in Maryland, most of her life. She has en- joyed foxchasing in Maryland and North Carolina, competed in driving with her four-horse Percheron hitch, and in dressage, eventing and sidesaddle. Her areas of business and organizational involvement in- clude being a current MHC Director-at-Large for Farms, a Frederick County Equine Alliance mem-
ber and its representative to the MHC, a founding member and secretary for the North Carolina Horse Council, a former member of the PVDA Board of Directors, and membership in several other associations. Cur- rently, Judy and her husband Tommy have a boarding and driving train- ing operation on their Good Friday Farm in Ijamsville, MD and set up and run the Ultimate Equestrian schoolings and competitions. Judy also owns and manages her retail store, Friday’s Horse Giftware. Previously, Judy worked as an equine vet tech for 11 years, and also operated a suc- cessful operation of breeding, foaling and starting young T oroughbreds for the track for clients. 301-662-2532;

Association Manager: Margaret O. Rizzo Margaret is the president and owner of Mythic
Landing Enterprises, a full-service marketing and business management company based in Damas- cus. She is thrilled to have found a career path that combines her talents in event planning and fund raising with her love of horses. Margaret’s diverse work background has allowed her to utilize her pub- lic relations, event planning and development skills,
which she brings to the MHC as the association manager. A graduate of the University of Maryland, she holds degrees in Pub- lic Relations and American Studies. Her resume includes an internship with T e Equiery and a position with Practical Horseman before striking out on her own to start Mythic Landing Enterprises.
