history & HERITAGE
North Yorkshire is undoubtedly enriched by the region’s heritage. Early Christian waymark crosses on the North York Moors, ruined abbeys, historic industrial workings, stately homes, churches, chapels and... well we could go on but you are probably getting the picture by now.
It is nearly impossible to travel across North Yorkshire without becoming inspired by legacy that time has left. Castles with moats and ramparts, thatched cottages seemingly untouched in centuries, bridges and stately homes combine with stunning backdrops to reveal life as it was lived in days gone by.
Travel too fast and you might well miss it, so tarry a while and soak up the heritage that belongs to us all. Better still take a walk, a cycle ride, a river cruise or a horse ride and experience the heritage today as it was built for yesterday.
