ith great excitement, the RSNC crew headed out of Colorado on December 4, 2012 to host the Nevada State Finals at Bonnie Springs Ranch and participate in the 2012 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Bonnie Springs Ranch in Blue Diamond, Nevada was a great location for lodging, food, fun and lots of Ranch Sorting. High Point contestants from Nevada came out to ride for buckles, plaques, prizes, and money at the Nevada state finals on December 6th and Ranch Sorters from Arizona, California, Colorado, Indiana, Kentucky, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas and Wyoming all competed at the events that were held December 6-9, 2012. The hospitality at the ranch was unsurpassed and enjoyed by the humans and the Nevada wildlife, especially the wild burros and peacocks.

The Nevada climate, with sunshine and temperatures in the 70’s, was a great way to spend time Ranch Sorting. Thursday, December 6, Ranch Sorting was kicked off at the Nevada State Finals with many great rides and awards given out at the end of the day.

December 6th Winner Results were: # 10 Masters Handicap - Duane Baxley and Darrell Gehrig, # 12 Handicap - Larry Newport and Travis Roberson, #4 - Amy Augusto and Debbie Simmons, #6HC - Nathan Hodge and Patrick Stevens, All Levels - Bryan Blackman and Travis Roberson, Beginner Ranch Hand - Samantha Simmons, Rookie Nevada State Champion - Marla Stevens, Nevada Novice State Champion - Janice Stitser, Amateur Nevada State Champion - Conrad Stitser, and Nevada Masters State Champion - Kelly Hodge.

Ranch Sorting National Championships made its’ official appearance at the 2012 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in the Las Vegas Convention Center Wrangler Arena on Friday, December 7th. The RSNC team showed up early to haul in panels, horses and cattle to the arena and give a demonstration to people visiting the Las Vegas Convention Center. “To be at the NFR is a dream come true,” said Dave Wolfe as he looked at the Wrangler Arena while RSNC members were Ranch Sorting. “The past 5 years of hard work and determination by everyone in the organization (RSNC Staff, Producers, Sponsors and Members) has come together to be showcased at the 2012 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. RSNC could not be more proud!”

On Friday, the guest clinicians were Joel and Jared Lesh who were explaining the sport to a full crowd of spectators, answering questions, and giving play-by-play commentary about the riders, cattle, and the sport. After the demonstration was over the RSNC team tore down panels, loaded up cows and horses and headed back to Bonnie Springs Ranch for a show in the afternoon. Some of the RSNC members went back to work at vendor booths, to visit with sponsors, share more about RSNC with visitors, and get new members signed up. A special thank you to all the vendors/sponsors at the different casinos that made this inaugural event so successful for RSNC: Priefert, Total Equine, 4 Star Trailers, Maynard, CSI Saddle Pads, Justin Boots, Spalding, and B&W Trailer Hitches. RSNC cannot thank our sponsors enough for their continued support of Ranch Sorting and RSNC. Finally, at the end of the day, RSNC staff and contestants met for some dinner and karaoke at the Bonnie Springs Ranch….with all of us reminding each other…..what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.

Saturday, the team headed back to town to display another exciting and informative Ranch Sorting demonstration with clinicians Shelley Fitzgerald and Tommy Roberson. Shelley and Tommy did a great job explaining and showing the crowd what Ranch Sorting was all about. The afternoon was spent with riders at Bonnie Springs Ranch for another show and visiting the different convention centers to promote RSNC. What was most exciting was meeting current RSNC members from Florida, Wyoming, California, Nevada, New York, and Texas who found RSNC at various vendor booths located in the different casinos such as Las Vegas Convention Center, Sands, Mandalay Bay and MGM, to name a few. Thanks so much to our outstanding members who stopped by to say hello.

The final day, Sunday, proved to be a great finale for RSNC Ranch Sorting demonstrations with Ken McNabb from the RFD-TV show Ken McNabb Discovering the Horseman Within. The bleachers were almost full on both sides of the arena while Mr. McNabb and other riders demonstrated and revealed how much fun Ranch Sorting is and how Ranch Sorting can be an addictive family sport. It was a great treat that Ken and his family were able to join us and be a part of the NFR experience with RSNC. Special thanks to the entire RSNC staff, the great clinicians, and all the wonderful RSNC members who came to participate and help promote the sport of Ranch Sorting. You can start planning NOW for next year!
