Steeped in history, Weymouth and Portland has a range of museums, castles and a fort to explore. Immerse yourself in the history of the Tudors at Portland Castle or the ruins of Sandsfoot Castle. Many events take place throughout the year ranging from Tudor Picnics and re-enactments to national Armed Forces Day Celebrations in June.


King George III’s visits to Weymouth in the late 18th century are commemorated by a town statue and white horse on the chalk hillside. Georgian buildings sweep along the seafront, many of which are guest houses boasting unrivalled views of the bay. Why not take a town walk to learn more about the history of the area?


Weymouth and Portland’s waters have an intriguing history of smugglers’ tales and shipwrecks, learn more about these at Portland Museum, or take to the waters with one of the many diving specialists to discover a wreck for yourself.
