Hours after Garrowhill dentist David Cunningham’s son Harry was born at the Princess Royal Maternity Hospital, he was diagnosed with persistent pulmonary hypertension and his life was hanging in the balance. At just two days old, he was


transferred to Yorkhill Children’s Hospital where he was lucky enough to secure a space on an ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygen- ation) machine. The ECMO machine provided


vital life support by bypassing Harry’s organs, giving his lungs a chance to recover. After three days, he was well enough to be transferred back to the Royal Infi rmary, where he stayed for the next two weeks. Thankfully, Harry has since made a full recovery and has just

More than 350 dentists converged on the Crowne Plaza in October to witness an ‘Adhesive Dentistry Master- class’ from Dr John Kanca. Dr Kanca participated in


the fi rst study to validate the etching and bonding of dentine, making it the everyday procedure used in practices worldwide. As well as discovering ‘wet bonding’, he created the fourth genera- tion of bonding systems and the concept of pulse activa-

Helen Kaney, dento-legal adviser with Dental Protec- tion, then gave a presenta- tion on effective complaints handling before GDP David MacPherson talked about facial aesthetics and how to give patients the best care.
