of professional legal skills. It will run at the College’s Birmingham, Chester, Guildford and London Bloomsbury centres in 2012 before expanding to the Bristol and York centres in 2013.
Sarah Hutchinson, Board Member for Business Development at the College, said:
“We were very impressed by the quality of the scholarship entries, the vast amount of thought that the students obviously put into developing their ideas and the commitment they showed to the legal profession. Congratulations to the winners and we look forward to welcoming them to the College in September.”
Entries were in a wide range of formats from traditional essays to videos and Powerpoint presentations. Dechert Scholarship winner Isabella Sharpley submitted a polystyrene and paper model of a barrister’s head with her answers to the ‘Why the world needs lawyers’ question written on the paper curls of its wig. Another winner Marta Sassenhagen, aged 20 from Hampstead in London, submitted her answer in the form
of a poem based on an Old Bailey murder trial that she witnessed while on work experience at a barristers’ chambers.
