05 UK B-Boy Championships World Finals
Brixton O2 Academy set the stage once again for another action packed UK B-Boy Championships World Finals as some of the world’s best crews and solo B-Boys took the battle to the dance floor over one weekend!
A
slight change to the event line up this year saw the finals for Solo B-Boys and Crews held on separate
days, but with tickets available for both events who could complain!
The venue was comfortably packed with B-Boy and dance enthusiasts thirsty for some body popping action. The stage looked like a backdrop from a super cool music video lined by the judges, DJ’s and contestants. Adding to the show spectacular was renowned hosts Afrika Islam and Crazy Legs from the Rock Steady Crew. Their banter alone made great entertainment even if their cursing was a touch blue at times!
The atmosphere grew in intensity as each battle took place on stage. Crews taunted rivals from competing continents with whimsical bravado. Impressive floor work incorporated flips, twists and spins as each troop put their best men forward to show off their skills.
One of the highlights of the evening was when event host Crazy Legs handpicked audience members to take part in the Annual Fresh Awards. Participants were judged to Crazy Legs, strict but street savvy criteria, based purely on attire and attitude. Dirty Air Jordan’s were enough to be sent off stage while a mix matching of brands Adidas and Puma was a cardinal sin. A man in
a hot pink suit caught everyone’s attention but sadly his dance moves had the audience booing him off stage within minutes!
There was never a dull moment making it hard to pick the battle winner as the heats progressed. Spain brought the humour with creative choreography that had both the audience and hosts in stitches, however their antics were not enough to see them through to the finals.

One of the battles most looked forward to was the face off between Japan and Korea, another match hard to judge, however it was a victorious Korea who then went on to pair off against the UK’s Soul Mavericks. This made an interesting championship final match as each troop took to the
floor with a vengeance.
Although each crew won my vote for showmanship there could only be one winner. Korea’s team ‘Jinjo’ took the 2012 cup with both the judges and audience in agreement, which was not often the case throughout the night!
